The Jones Act’s Impact on Offshore Oil and Gas Operations (Sep 2016)
Primarily considered as a limitation on the transportation of cargo between ports, the Jones Act cabotage regulations also have a significant effect on the daily operations of offshore oil and gas production. Whether it be offshore supply vessels, flotels, pipe-lay vessels, or heavy lifts, the Jones Act must be a constant consideration when conducting operations with these vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. Explore the regulations, application of specific CBP opinions to offshore operations, and the practical and/or technical implications the Jones Act cabotage regulations have on actual offshore operations.
