Overview

Don’t miss the opportunity to meet with and learn from nationally-recognized experts. Get to know your fellow practitioners from around the state and hear how they are dealing with tough issues.

New this year is an expanded optional Wednesday pre-conference session, Fundamentals of Immigration and Nationality Law. This session is ideal for new practitioners or as a refresher for experienced practitioners. Topics include the basics of processing visas, adjustments of status, a primer on naturalization and citizenship, mock adjustment of status interview and mock naturalization interview. The Fundamentals concludes with an “Ask the Experts” panel and an opening reception.

The main program – on October 20-21 – includes longer sessions designed to leave practitioners with tools, forms, tips and guidance on key decision points and strategies in family-based immigration cases and employment-based immigration cases, and the increasing importance of removal and relief from removal. The 2011 program includes presentations on:

•    A practitioner’s guide to navigating the complexities of marriage cases
•    Immigration issues involving minors
•    Permanent resident timeline tightrope
•    Extreme lawyers: filing waivers at home and at consulates abroad

The program also includes two keynote luncheon presentations: “Lessons from Inside: How Reform Could Happen” with Roxie Bacon, Former Chief Counsel, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and “Proposed Texas Immigration Legislation: Bad for Business?” with Luis O. Figueroa Jr., MALDEF, and Todd C. Landfried, Arizona Employers for Immigration Reform.
