Despite recent efforts by CMS and the OIG to modernize their respective regulations interpreting the Physician Self-Referral Law (aka, the Stark Law) and the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, careful attention is still required to avoid administrative, civil, and criminal penalties arising from these laws.
